This tool helps you identify and select appropriate safety countermeasures for your project based on crash types, project site location, and/or safety emphasis areas. The countermeasure selector guides you through a systematic process to build a customized list of safety treatments that will be implemented with your project.

How to Use This Tool

1. Crash History: Navigate to the Destination Safe Crash Dashboard tab to identify the crash history and safety issues at the project location (incident by mode and incident by type).
2. Select Countermeasures: Go to the Countermeasures tab and use the filtering criteria, based on the project location’s crash history, to generate a list of appropriate safety countermeasures. Filter by crash types, site and roadway characteristics, and safety emphasis areas. Then click the "Find Countermeasures" button. Click on countermeasure cards to view detailed information, then use the "Add to Project" button to add relevant countermeasure to your project plan.
3. Project Information: Navigate to the Project Info tab at the top of the page. Fill in basic details about your project and briefly explain how/where each selected safety countermeasure(s) or treatments will be implemented. This information will be included in your final report. For MARC suballocated applicants, you must upload the incidents by mode and incidents by type crash history charts from the Destination Safe Crash Data Dashboard. Click on the “Upload Crash History” button to upload a single PDF document showing the charts and any other relevant site-specific crash issues.
4. Generate and Print Report: When you're ready, navigate to the Create Report tab to view a formatted report that includes your project information and a complete list of selected site-specific safety countermeasures. Use the "Print Report" button to print or save the report as a PDF. For MARC suballocated applicants, save the project report as a PDF and upload with your application, where specified.

Note: Your project information and treatment selections are automatically saved in your browser and will persist between sessions. You can remove countermeasures individually if needed by clicking the "Remove from Project" button below the selected countermeasure card.
